2013 National Ride for Reading Week Announcement!
Things get better with age-like our third annual Ride for Reading delivery! Join Naked Women’s Racing for National Ride for Reading Week! See below for a quick synopsis of what Ride for Reading week is all about.
NEW for this year: We challenge YOU to lead a Ride for Reading delivery in YOUR CITY! If we can get 5 new cities on board, then we will donate $250 to Ride for Reading on behalf of the Naked Women’s Cycling team.
What: Colorado-based women’s competitive cycling team Naked Women’s Racing will deliver thousands of donated children’s books by bicycle to Smith Elementary School Friday, May 10 for National Ride for Reading Week. Naked Women’s Racing partnered with the charity Ride for Reading, a non-profit with a mission to promote literacy and healthy living through the distribution of books via bicycle to children from low-income neighborhoods.
When: Delivery takes place Friday, May 10 from 8:15 am to 12 pm. We are collecting donations of books and/or cash donations for Ride for Reading from now until delivery date!
Why: In low-income neighborhoods, the ratio of books per child is one age-appropriate book for every 300 children. Reading is an integral part of education, and without books it is hard to build a strong academic base. Our children need materials to read at home and it is our goal to provide the means. And in the process, we can fight childhood obesity and nature deficit disorder through the power of cycling, too! Exercise the mind and body and lead through example.
Where: Smith Elementary School located at 3590 Jasmine Street Denver, CO 80207
Meeting Location: Parking lot of 9NEWS located at 500 E. Speer Blvd
Bike Route: Our bike route will be doable by any person of any fitness level on any bike! We assure you, so please join us.
How to Register to Volunteer:
How to Make a Donations: Cash donations are tax deductible so please provide your name, mailing address, and donation value with your donation so Ride for Reading can send you a tax exempt letter.

If you aren’t local and would still like to send us books, please mail them to the Quick Left to Attn: Rachel Scott, 902 Pearl Street, Boulder, Colorado 80301.

Cyclist Finds Community Competing for Naked Women’s Racing
Amanda 2.0 just can’t stay out of the news. Colorado Daily decided to feature one of the twins!
Four years ago, Amanda Cyr weighed 350 pounds. A doctor told her she would die unless she changed her lifestyle.
Cyr, who now races for the Boulder-based Naked Women’s Racing cycling team, knew she had to change her lifestyle but had never really participated in organized sports, or a regular exercise schedule.
“Oh yeah, couch potato was a big sport of mine,” the now-29-year-old said, laughing.

News Flash: The Naked Twins Make Road Racing Return in 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DENVER, Colo (February 19, 2013) – After last years triumphant debut of the Naked twins, we are pleased and concerned to announce the return of the Amandas.
“Last year was like waking up from a comma to discover you had a twin you never knew about and the weirdest part is she looks just like me” said Amanda Cyr.
“Yeah, all my life I knew I was missing something but never did I imagine it was a twin I never knew I had!” weeped Amanda Bye. “She is the padding to my chamois” smirked Cyr and “she is the cream to my itch” winked Bye.
They both have had to work through their new found identical identities though. Cyr talks about having to overcome learning that her twin had in fact tried to eat her in the womb. ”There was a reason I felt like I had been in a zombie movie in my past life.”
“I have always loved me some BBQ and there is no hiding that” Bye said jokingly…we hope.
Quick Left CEO and Colorado Womens Cycling Project sponsor Ingrid Alongi was overheard stating “I would rank them in a top 500 female cycling twins of all times VH1 special if someone paid me.” Rolling Stones magazine is calling this “The most anticipated return to the stage since Milli Vanilli.” Just recently Will.I.AM begged the girls to be featured in his new chart topper “Scream and Shout”.
2013 looks to be a big year for the hottest Naked twins since the Olsen sisters. ”Parents better watch your children cross the street and crazy jumping deer beware” touts Bye. ”No road rash too deep, no curb too high” proclaimed Cyr. ”We are back to bring the Naked Amandas action to a city near you!”
Colorado Daily: Naked Women’s Racing Named Club of the Year
Naked Women’s Racing says they’re bringing more women to the sport
By Sarah Kuta kuta@coloradodaily.com
Rachel Scott and her two Naked Women’s Racing co-founders were tired of women’s cycling’s reputation. The sport is male-dominated, and when it <comes> to female cyclists, it’s known for catty, aggressive women who don’t get along, Scott said. That makes other women hesitant to join a team or start racing.
So, Scott and two cycling friends, Vera Divenyi and Joan Orgeldinger, created their own all-women’s team based in Boulder <correction Denver> to address that stereotype. Finish reading here: http://www.coloradodaily.com/outdoor-recreation/ci_22306637#ixzz2HG580fxs
Side note: We started the team as a Denver-based team; however, we’ve expanded to the entire state of Colorado. We still state Denver-based, but have women all over the state representing Naked Women’s Racing. Also, the quotes expressed in this article are misinterpreted and out of context. For example, many of the quotes are perceptions of women’s cycling and there are many factors that influence this perception. In addition to the quotes, the two misspellings are beyond our control and passed through the editorial process.

2nd Annual BRAC Women’s Summit
Susan Adamkovics and Rachel Scott hosted the 2nd Annual BRAC Women’s Summit at Boulder Beer. Great to see so many women wanting to grow and improve the sport in Colorado! Plenty of Naked ladies made the trek to Boulder Beer too, showing their support.
This year’s summit had about 50+ more participants than last year–including staff, board members, promoters, officials, the ED of OIWC, new and seasoned racers–and adopted four initiatives for 2013. Also, 2012 was our largest year for participation across the board in every senior and masters category (32.8% growth over 2011). SW4 and SW45+ saw the largest growth percentages. Retention from Cat 4 to 3 was a focus of the evening as statistically many come into the sport as a beginner to never be seen again. 2012 is no different than any year prior for BRAC or other LA’s across the country. But also nationally, retention rates for nonprofit membership-based organizations for 1st year new members hovers around 70%. It’s a problem shared among organizations like BRAC.
Overall, the feedback thus far from the summit has been very positive. Colorado has a great group of passionate, strong female athletes who want to grow the sport for women and are willing to work to make it happen despite raising families, working full time, and fitting in training where they can. I’m continually impressed by the stories women share, insight they offer into the sport, and willingness to work whether impacting one person at a time or influencing a room full of people. I know I’m excited about it and have experienced growth first hand with our team growing from 6 in 2010 to 60 women for 2013, with many of them never having participated a bike race in their life as of yet.
Susan and I are preparing a recap and survey during the holiday to send to participants and registered BRAC riders. This will also be published on coloradocycling.org.
And also, a HUGE thank you Jennifer Triplett for being a genuine keynote speaker and starting us off in a positive direction. Colorado is lucky to have you!
Club Team is now full!
By the power of Facebook–and our teammates’ prodding–we had an overwhelming response to our last call for club members. Our club is now at max capacity! But fear not women of the cycling world looking for community. There are great teams out there still accepting women for the 2013 road season! Visit all the clubs on the Bicycle Racing Association of Colorado’s website.
And as always, women of any ability are welcome to join in on our leisurely club group rides regardless of your team affiliation!
Naked Women Take Pro 1,2 RMRC Victory; Cat 4′s Hold on to Second
DENVER, Colo (September 27, 2012) – Naked Women’s Racing powered by TriBella’s Category Pro, 1, 2 women took first in the 2012 Rocky Mountain Road Cup (RMRC) team competition for the Bicycle Racing Association of Colorado (BRAC). The RMRC competition is designed to be a season long points competition for BRAC member clubs and individual racers. Racers compete for jerseys, medals, plaques and bragging rights. The standings are based on the top three finishers from each team at selected Gold, Silver and Bronze races throughout the road season from March through September. To view complete results, visit www.coloradocycling.org.
“We started the season with this goal in mind,” said one of the three team founders Joan Orgeldinger. “We knew we had a shot this year so we gave it everything we had, competing in nearly every single race in Colorado. We couldn’t be more proud of each and every teammate.”
Naked’s Pro,1,2 squad consists of Susan Adamkovics, Ingrid Alongi, Marisa Asplund, Vera Divenyi, Joan Orgeldinger, Renee Schroeder, Rachel Scott, Roberta Smith, and Kimberley Turner. Each woman contributed to the team victory.
Naked’s Category 4 squad also fought a very close competition and managed to hold on to second place in the RMRC cup, with only 53 points separating first place Team Primal Racing. The Cat 4 squad consists of Amanda Bye, Amanda Cyr, Megan DiBiase, Barb Parnell, and Maya Thomas-Wachterman. Sharon Madison earned many points for the Cat 4 squad until she was given a mandatory upgrade to Cat 3. She and Kat Garner held onto a 5th place podium spot among the very competitive Category 3 RMRC competition.
About Naked Women’s Racing powered by TriBella
Naked Women’s Racing was founded in November 2010 by three competitive cyclists passionate about women’s racing. The team has grown to include 25 women in all categories of competitive cycling with a primary focus on road cycling. The team also competes in track, cyclocross, and mountain biking with national and state champions in each discipline. In 2012, the team incorporated a club to foster women who are cycling enthusiasts and thinking of trying out racing. The group of dedicated women athletes share a commitment to a healthy lifestyle through cycling as well as helping the Colorado community. Our goals are to encourage women to engage in a healthy lifestyle through the friendship, teamwork and fun that cycling offers; to assist in our community through our Ride for Reading service; to help others get to the next level through hard training and racing.; to increase the visability of our generous sponsors through participating in races, paid charity and team group rides while expecting our members to participate in social networking to provide positive support of our sponsors; and to be conscientious of our personal character on and off the bike so we can continue to promote the sport and our sponsors in a positive light while remaining “drama-free.”
